I’m Kay, a multidisciplinary artist born and raised in Deptford, South East London.

I’m an accumulation of the things I love, and I tend to float in between crafts. Growing up, that meant painting, textiles, drama and dance, and now we can also add roller skating to the mix.

I trained in fine art and textile design, graduating from Central Saint Martins in 2014 with a BA (Hons) in Textile Design. My work moves between painting, illustration and textiles, with heritage and preserving culture at its heartbeat.

Everything I make comes back to home: my Jamaican family, childhood nostalgia, and the archives I keep returning to. Family photographs, books, treasured objects, vintage fashions and the memories attached to them all find their way into my work.

I work with rich, vibrant colour, bold pattern and lots of tactile detail that honour craftsmanship, because I want my work to look and feel like a celebration of Black joy, adorned unapologetically. I hope that when you look at a piece, you recognise something of yourself in it.
